ESL - English as Second Language
At Inventure Academy, we welcome students from every part of the world. These children may spend a few months to many years in India. We believe that their academic development should be unhampered, even though they do not initially speak, read or write in English - our medium of teaching and learning. They should, by right, fit into an age-appropriate class on return to their own country.
The ESL program has two components. One, the student is assigned a dedicated teacher of English, who proceeds on the basis of a tailored Individual Learning Plan (ILP), aimed at providing the child fluency in English. This should enable the student to acquire a working knowledge of the English language, and be mainstreamed into his/ her age group - academically as well as socially. These students may also be given simpler textual material for other subjects, so that they can keep pace with the class.
Two, in a corresponding effort to preserve language studies in the child's mother tongue, at his/ her pace and level of learning, an enriched second-language program is provided. This is possible if the mother tongue is part of Inventure Academy's second-language options. This allows language studies for such a student to be taken up at his/ her individual level, unhampered by the pace of the rest of the class. It also makes the process of transition from one country and language, to the other, gentler on the child.
