A Healthy Relationship With Your PC

The computer is one of the greatest inventions of mankind. It has helped not only to make life easier, but also to advance it in many ways. Used in a judicious manner, the computer can be the best friend we ever had! Here are a few tips that'll ensure you share a healthy relationship with your personal computer (PC).

Placement of the PC
  • The Monitor should be placed 20-24 inches from the user at or slightly below eye-level
  • A straight-backed chair with a comfortable headrest should be used
  • The CPU and monitor should have a stable base
  • Good air circulation and a cooler than normal room temperature are ideal
  • The keyboard should be placed so that it doesn't angle the wrist upwards or sideways

Posture & Positioning
  • The hand should be parallel to the floor and in line with the shoulders
  • Wrists should not be angled upwards or downwards
  • Use a comfortable chair that keeps your knees bent and your thighs parallel to the floor.
  • Do not slouch. Relax your back occasionally.

Dos & Don'ts
While reading from a book, a person blinks roughly 20 times a minute, but while reading from the screen it is reduced to 3-5 times a minute. This causes itching and 'Dry Eye Syndrome'.
  • Keep the PC near a window but away from direct sunlight. This gives the eye some exercise. If not possible then keep distractions like soft toys, paintings, plants etc nearby.
  • Typing for too long or in a bad position leads to 'Carpal Tunnel Syndrome'. Place your keyboard and chair correctly!
