Inventuring 2006-2007

Unlike most other schools my school, Inventure Academy, began the new academic year with a foundation programme called "Inventuring". It commenced on 1st June and went on for a period of two weeks.

The basic objective of the programme was that each student could get to know his/her fellow mates and the teachers. It was also interspersed with a number of activities, which made us think, learn and enjoy all at the same time.

A typical 'Inventuring' day began with sports for an hour and a half. After that we had various activities such as kite making, making paper planes etc. We also had a treasure hunt based on Multiple Intelligences, which went on for three days. The hunt at 'Inventuring' was different because we had to crack clues to reach a place where we had to perform an activity related to music, acting or sports. The treasure was a box full of goodies, which we all shared.

During this programme, all of us chose different projects we could work on for the entire year. Some of us chose to create a website for the school, others volunteered to build a "Tree Neighbourhood" and the rest chose "School Beautification", which involves creating murals to decorate the campus, spray painting the school buses etcetera.

The best part of the programme was the night out where students of grades 3 -8 spent the night at school. We had sports for the first two hours, and then learnt to pitch different kinds of tents. In the evening we set out to collect wood, bricks and sand to build a bonfire. At around 8.30 in the evening we had dinner, which had been prepared by the juniors along with the teachers while we were out collecting material for the bonfire. After this we gathered around the bonfire and listened to songs sung by a few students and some teachers.

Later the boys enjoyed playing darkroom in their respective rooms till the wee hours of the morning. None of us were really waiting to go to sleep, as it was such an exciting day.

We woke up early the next morning. We had breakfast, played for a while and then spent some time sharing our experiences and learning with the entire group. This circle time was new for many of us but we were made to feel at home. We left for our homes at ten in the morning. The programme was a great success and it was an amazing experience to learn things while having such a lot of fun. We hope we have many such experiences here soon.
