Smooth Sailing on Inventuring Seas

Wednesday and Thursday of Inventuring week continued with the same fervour from both teachers and students, with everybody learning something new with each endeavour. The ever-favourite sports period is enjoyed every day, with each student participating in the fun. The Project Time and Choice Time activities continue to stimulate the minds and hearts of the Inventurers.

The Conflict Resolution Choice Time, held by Aaron Sir, teaches a skill the students are keen to learn. The group engages in discussion that leads to an argument, from which they learn the best ways to work out such disagreements. Anirudh, from Grade 9, shared that the fun starts when they create things to present in the Maker’s Space, and that he is excited for the presentation on the final day.

Meanwhile, in the Photography Choice Time, the students have eagerly been completing their homework – on one day capturing beautiful pictures of the sunset, which Kishen Sir shared tips on how to improve. Demonstrations in the classroom itself, with the students laughing and posing, as well as hands-on photography throughout the day, are what make the Choice Time tremendously enjoyable.

Some of the 9th grade students have been making bags for underprivileged children during their Project Time, and one of the participants, Aryan, revealed how good it makes him feel to know his work is for a good cause. He also took great pleasure in learning how to stitch, which is something he believes is an important skill. Another Project Time activity for the 9th grade is Mandala painting in the Mindfulness Centre. Kareena and Sanjana divulged their original frustration at having to ensure every line of their artwork was precisely drawn, using lengths of string to construct the large circles. They learnt to work with it, however, and have been enjoying the painting.

The 11th and 12th grade students continued their survival skills workshop, learning the importance of self-protection in today’s world. An energetic session continuing the basics of the martial art Capoeira left everyone with flushed faces and raised heart rates. The Mindfulness exercises were also taken further, with a new art therapy activity. After some stretches and breathing exercises, an instrumental piece of music was played and the group drew the images that came to their minds.

The students all buzzed with excitement as they left, ready to present their projects on the final day of Inventuring. They reached home with a good night’s sleep in mind, to prepare for the final day’s sleepover.
