Anushri Savanth (Grade 10) semi-finalist at Chitta...

The theme for this year's art competition 'Together Towards Tomorrow' had 217 entries from 27 schools. Anushri was among 26 students whose artwork was selected for the semi-finals. Seven Inventurers from Grades 10, 11 and 12 participated in this competition, a first for Inventure on this international platform. Congratulations Anushri! Read below why she chose to draw this art form. I have taken Kalamkari as my technique to illustrate the theme ' Together towards tomorrow ' . One of the main challenges that the Kalamkari artist face is the lack of water. The cotton cloth for the Kalamkari work needs to be pre-treated with water. Further, it needs to be soaked between paint sessions. The severe water scarcity has affected the lives of these artists. In my painting, water takes on the form of a beautiful, be-jewelled woman. She is being trailed by a group of villagers, some being the very artisans who practice Kalamkari. Some attempt to collect her water droplets while others chase after her, demanding water on behalf of their village. They work together, sharing their ladders, pots, and bulls for one unified cause to make tomorrow better. I used fabric paints for this painting as the vibrant color range and consistency reminds me of the original Kalamkari work.

The morning show was attended by school children, faculty, parents, grandparents, trustees and other esteemed guests. The evening show was at 5:00 pm, with every seat in the auditorium occupied. The shows were extremely well-received, thanks to the engaging theme, beautiful costumes, melodious songs, wonderfully choreographed dances and masterful acting. The play is centered on Disney characters. Shrek, one of the characters, conveys the gist of the theme succinctly towards the end: “Well, well, well... I'm an Ogre! And trust me I know what it means to have people expect you to behave in a certain way. So much pressure to achieve! But you guys showed us something important! It's important to be yourself. AND, at the same time it's just as important to be the best that you can be!” This sentiment echoes succinctly the educational philosophy and core values of Inventure Academy. Arati Punwani Sunawala, Director of the play said, “The entire process and experience has been a journey of discovery and exploration both internally and externally. The Inventure Academy Primary Production has ensured that each child has had the space to blossom and bloom. Each voice heard, string strummed and steps danced were valued and celebrated!” Preet Benjamin Aarons, Vice Principal Primary School said, “At Inventure Academy, the Production is first and foremost a learning experience – one that brings the entire Primary School together, one where all students, faculty and staff work together as a team to pull off a mammoth show while showcasing individual talents. Patience, discipline, support, team work and diligence combine to provide the ideal backdrop for children in their quest for excellence.” A beaming Principal, Mallika Sen stated, “I am absolutely awed by the level of involvement and dedication shown by each and every child and by the entire Primary Section. This play has provided deep learning opportunities that extend well beyond the confines of the classroom and textbooks.” An ecstatic Nooraine Fazal, Managing Trustee of Inventure Academy, said “Inventure’s first Production had a blank canvas backdrop. In many ways, that canvas has now evolved to reflect the ideas, aspirations and dreams of our students, faculty and other stakeholders to be the best that we can be at whatever we do. Through the Production, Inventure nurtures and celebrates individuality and teamwork.” Funds raised from Inventure Academy’s Primary School Production this year, amounting to Rs. 4.5 lakhs, was donated towards Enfold Proactive Health Trust to help educate 100,000 underprivileged students, and their caretakers about child safety through Enfold's project called “Laksha Makkala Suraksha Project." Managing Trustee, Nooraine Fazal and Principal Mallika Sen, handed over the cheque to Dr. Sangeeta Saksena of Enfold Proactive Health Trust. Inventure Academy’s unique curriculum which equips children with life skills is focused on the holistic development of children, with the expectation that each child will flourish in academic, athletic and other extra-curricular spheres. The resounding success of the musical-drama “I Just Can’t Wait to be Me”, is a testimony to the effective implementation of the vision, mission and Core Purpose of Inventure Academy, thus providing ample opportunities for children to freely showcase their talents and unique abilities, with a passion to strive for excellence in everything that they do. Primary School Dancers- Sneak Peek

Here's a sneak peek at our Primary School Dancers rehearsing for the upcoming production "I Just Can't Wait To Be Me". Video by Akanksha, Grade 12 Media Team

Just Can’t Wait To Be Me Rehearsals

Lights! Camera! Action! And it unfolds, the dancers taking their places, choir trilling a note or two, actors ready to take the stage by storm and artists adding the finishing touches to the props. And cut! The primary block is brimming with excitement in anticipation for their school production - Just Can’t Wait To Be Me. A hilarious tale about a young girl who’s stuffed animals want to join her on her trip and will do whatever it takes. With only 2 days till the big show hits the stage, each and every performer, crew member and teacher is preparing for a dazzling and unforgettable show, where each line is spoken with clarity, each song in tune, each hand movement coordinated with elegant grace and each painting an amalgam of colours. But under all the seriousness is both a feeling of pride and anxiety. And the kids have every right to feel this way. Months of practice have been put in, hidden talents discovered and new friends made. The entire journey has been magical. The kids have worked tirelessly, determination and passion being powerful motivators. “One individual is not the most important thing in something so grand” says Miss Preet Aarons, our Primary School Head. Teamwork is the key to pulling off every show of this production. And this teamwork is one of the key lessons that the children have learnt during their time rehearsing. Hundreds of kids working as one unit however is not always easy. “It was really fun working together with new people, but a lot of the times co-ordination was hard”, commented 5th grade dancers Guhar and Vanshika. Upon being asked about other hardships, Kiara, an artist in the prop making team, told us about the difficulties they had with certain props, but also how in the end, their hard work and immense effort payed off. No one wants to let the whole crew down, so every member is working tirelessly to get everything that needs to be done finished and ready to perfection for the big day. We for one, can’t wait to see the glorious spectacle that awaits us. Hopefully we’ll see you all there to appreciate the amazing work these kids have done. Let’s go Juniors! We know for sure it’ll be a hit. By Prerna, Namrata and Anish, Grade 11AS
