‘BE’ at the Gunjur Government High School aims at equipping children of the High School with skills to start businesses. It is a novel approach – students teaching students – and the program is being implemented for the first time in Karnataka. Be! Schools is a large-scale emerging market model introduced by Going to School aimed at teaching skills to children in the government school system, in the hope of reducing the dropout rate and arm the students with essential knowledge . Be Schools use a dynamic set of stories that teach an entrepreneurial skill, from building relationships to making a cash flow statement and a business plan keeping in mind the need of thecountry, ie, skilled, young entrepreneurs.
Going to School is now engaged in a campaign called ‘Gaming for Change’ a unique approach to teach the next generation of children particularly children from less privileged backgrounds through games to develop critical skills essential to be successfully employed or start a business to support themselves and their families.
Gaming for Change is Going to School’s response to the Google Global Impact Challenge and has been selected by Google as one of it’s top 10 finalists in the Google Global Impact Challenge thereby putting Going to School in the running for a prize award worth $500,000 that will help them make 21 computers and mobile skill games for kids.
