Wider World

A child’s mind is open to multiple stimuli. At Inventure, we ensure that from early on, our learners are enriched by a breadth of exposure to the real world. This is what the Wider World Program is all about: learning for life, not for passing an exam. Through internships and guest lectures, they experience the diversity of work and professional environments. Through the Changemaker program they discover positive impact-making. Workshops are a fount of learning of different types. The field trips and outbound programs nudge them to challenge themselves in unfamiliar settings. And the MUN and Round Square Youth Parliament are the perfect vehicle for children to understand the plurality of opinions, perspectives, life choices, inequalities and knowledge that today’s world contains.

Changemaker Program

The Inventure Changemaker Program is designed to create a cadre of socially responsible citizens who can advocate, lead and influence social and environmental change. High school learners from Inventure use entrepreneurial and design innovations and technology to impact positive change in their neighbourhoods and beyond. A community of academic experts, parent-entrepreneurs & activists, Inventure management and faculty runs the program.

Changemaker Initiatives

  • Crowdsourcing information on water quality and rejuvenation of water bodies
  • Solutions for traffic woes
  • Exploring relevant social and environmental issues
  • Improving learning in Government Schools using technology

The Change Maker Program develops a visible self-belief and passion for making a difference among learners. It gives them that crucial glimpse of how the problems that plague society can be resolved; that change might be slow, but it is not impossible.

Changemaker Challenge

Inventure Academy has thrown open the idea of change-making and positive action to high school learners from other schools and communities. At the latest Challenge, 48 teams of high school learners from across Bangalore submitted their exciting and fresh ideas and proposals to make a dent in socio-economic and environmental issues the city is facing.

The Inventure Academy Youth Parliament

The Inventure Academy Youth Parliament was conceptualised to equip learners with the Right to Participate (guaranteed by Article 12 of the UNCRC) in the world that they are inheriting and to enable them to be positive change makers. This is achieved by exposing our youth to different perspectives, dialogue between nations and the process of decision-making through a blended platform of the Model United Nations (MUN) and Model Parliament (MP). Learners are exposed to the process of how laws are created and implemented through the interplay between various stakeholders, including international organisations such as the United Nations, Model (Indian) Parliament (Model Lok Sabha or Model Rajya Sabha), Media and Civil Society. This helps demonstrate how citizens (including children) can have an impact and be a part of the solution.

In 2018, we hosted the Round Square Youth Parliament – Our World, Our Voice. The conference was conceptualised by Inventure Academy in partnership with Round Square, an internationally diverse network of 200 schools in 50 countries on 6 continents. This is an idea that blends the Model United Nations with Model Parliament simulations, giving children a chance to be change-makers in a high level interchange between nations.

Inventure Model United Nations

The Inventure Academy Model United Nations (INMUN), now 11+ years old, serves as a platform for learners across India to engage in dialogue on the world’s most pertinent issues and create solutions through collaboration and diplomacy. The simulation helps to enhance negotiation, communication, research and critical thinking skills tremendously among participating learners. Each year our conference provides an experiential learning opportunity for critical thinking, making positive change, and teamwork, instilling in every participant the desire and ability to be ‘socially responsible’.

Inventure learners participate in MUNs around the globe. They have won more than 30 awards at local, national and international MUN meets.

Class Outbound and Lifeskills Trips

Inventure is committed to providing our learners a variety of  learning opportunities about the world, (and themselves). The Class Outbound & Lifeskills Trips are a wonderful way for our children to do this through pure experience. For more than 10 years we have collaborated with INME, (now Youreka), an organization that designs learning experiences using adventure and challenge. Every trip has a defined Theme and a learning focus to cater to our learners under the mentorship of the Youreka team. The trips are a remarkable exercise in character building, offering opportunities for children to try new things and express themselves in a safe, protected environment.

Internships

Compulsory for learners of Grades 10-12, the Inventure Academy internship program fosters leadership, inter- and intra-personal skills and a glimpse of real-world work beyond academia. Learners are expected to complete two internships of two weeks each during the course of these two years. Nothing prepares learners for working life and choosing careers better than immersion into an actual workplace. The Wider World team at Inventure helps learners find Internships that meet their interests. We have a dynamic, engaged and diverse parent body and find their support and network very useful in helping place learners. In the past, learners have worked in law firms, marketing departments, with NGOs, Sports Academies, news agencies, research labs and more.
Learners learn many real life skills when they embark upon the process of finding an internship: they learn to follow up leads, make cold calls, draft cover letters and leverage their community network. Most importantly, they begin to find answers to the question, “what would you like to do with the rest of your life?”
Once completed, learners present their internship experiences to their teachers, parents, peers and mentors reflecting on their learning and how it has shaped their career choices.
What each learner takes home, besides a letter of recommendation, is a unique and irreplaceable experience, a glimpse into a possible career, touching upon leadership and interpersonal skills, all of which give solid direction and focus to their goals.

The school has also offered customized internship programs to learners in partnership with Do New and Stable Bow.

Guest Lectures

Interacting with and hearing from inspirational achievers and experts in different fields can change a young person’s perspective for life. Inventure Academy has regular talks by such eminent persons for our learners. Children find inspiration from people’s life stories, what challenges they face and how they overcome them. Some learners extend this opportunity by finding mentors or internship opportunities with visiting experts.

Field Trips

At Inventure, our field trips combine exposure to diverse influences, experiential learning, critical thinking, the practical application of concepts and the fun of discovery. Learners visit local or outstation sites that have relevance to their curriculum in an interdisciplinary way, but also feed into their holistic development as individuals. They see practical applications of classroom contexts. We build lesson plans around these visits and guide learners to reflect upon their learning as a follow up, which builds long-lasting impressions. The added opportunity of close interaction between peers, teachers and other age groups provides invaluable opportunities to develop interpersonal skills and the values of sharing, caring and collaborative effort. Teachers (and sometimes parent- volunteers) always accompany such groups and take charge of the arrangements, safety and well-being of the group.

Inventure Field Trip Locations

Government schools, animal rehab centres, the National Gallery of Modern Art, and other art exhibits and museums, Bannerghatta National Park, Bangalore School of Speech and Drama, Meteorological Office, the HMT Watch Museum, the National Centre for Biological Sciences and more. With INME children go on treks and adventures and test all their boundaries.

Community Outreach

The Community Outreach program at Inventure ties in with our core values of ‘Encouraging Sensitivity’ and ‘Providing Maximum Exposure’. Learners of Grade K-12 engage in various outreach activities throughout the year as they heighten their awareness about the communities they work with, develop empathy, understand diversity in human circumstances and create solutions to enable their communities.

Community outreach in the form of engaging with government schools and fundraising is built into the curriculum at every level.

Learners from Kindergarten engage in projects like collection drives for ration supplies, clothing and more to support old age homes.
In Primary School, learners are engaged in thematic projects that tie with the school values through the Valuethon, to contribute to society. An Annual Calendar Sale to support the work of CUPA (Compassion Unlimited Plus Action), creation and donation of teaching learning materials to low cost private schools and local Government Schools, Kindness Quilt Project for children’s homes are some of the initiatives of the Outreach Program. Learners get exposure to experts and organizations and exchange programs where they and local government school children spend time together at each other’s schools and work towards common projects together.

Kindergarten students' collection drive to support the old age home-Asha Bhavan, 2020

Middle School learners work towards developing empathy and compassion by engaging in social service projects, and fundraising events and collection drives, contributing 9-12 hours of service in their chosen social cause. The themes that we have explored through this revolve around compassion towards animals, understanding sustainability via practice of circular economy and understanding the lives of migrants in Bengaluru. A few new areas that are being explored are sustainable living practices, understanding lives of people with disability and civic action for social change.

Senior School community outreach program is aimed to engage learners in educational projects at various neighboring Government Schools, to actively contribute time and skills towards learning and development of other children. Inventure Academy continues to support and host a range of activities, learners exchange and outreach efforts in multiple neighboring schools, namely, Government Higher Primary Boys School, Dommasandra, Government Lower Primary School, Sullikuntedinne and Varthur Public School. In the past Inventure adopted Government Urdu Higher Primary School supporting the school in improvement of its infrastructure and enabling teachers to improve their teaching learning practices.

To live the our dream for the future, i.e. to create a hundred thousand changemakers by providing Inventure education for kids across the socio-economic spectrum, Inventure Academy, in 2019, adopted Government Higher Primary School, Ramagondanahalli with a vision to transform the current school into a Model English-medium Government School. This 5-year commitment with the Department of Public Instruction, Government of Karnataka, and Whitefield Ready, to work on improving quality of education at Government Higher Primary School, Ramagondanahalli  is an opportunity to explore a sustainable way of scaling up the ‘Inventure way of teaching-learning’ and set it up as a blueprint that can further be shared with other public schools and organizations.
